Menno de Bree
'On the Difficulty of Thinking'

Date: Thursday September 7, 2018
Time: 18.15 - 18.45 hrs.
Location: Auditorium

Doing ethics has something to do with thinking. I think. But thinking is a very difficult activity. Most people, including myself, do not think that much and are not particularly good at it; often because they are badly trained in thinking. In order to get ethics of the ground, one should overcome at least some of the philosophical, psychological and educational challenges that often prevent people from good thinking, or ... thinking at all.

In this talk, I will explore some of these challenges, based on my experiences as ethics consultant and facilitator of moral case deliberations.

Menno de Bree (1974) teaches philosophy and ethics at the University Medical Center in Groningen, The Netherlands. He is a public speaker, teaches philosophy at Brainfeed and at The School of Life, and writes a weekly column for 'Het Financieel Dagblad', the Dutch financial newspaper.
